International Colloquium: The Horia Bernea Foundation in theContext of 20th-Century Artistic Legacies

Salonul de proiecte, in collaboration with the New Europe Foundation (NEC), isorganizing on October 16, 2025, the international colloquium The Horia Bernea Foundation in the Context of 20th-Century Artistic Legacies, a meeting dedicated toreflecting on the management of 20th-century artistic legacies. The event bringstogether representatives of institutions and organizations managing artist foundations/estates: Lisa Le Feuvre(Holt/Smithson Foundation, Santa Fe), Daniel Grúň (Július Koller Society, Bratislava), Iolanda Costide (Paul Neagu Estate, London, UK), Irina Bitzan(Ion Bitzan Foundation, The Hague), and Ioana Măgureanu (Simona Runcan Estate, Bucharest).
The colloquium aims to foster dialogue between various perspectives on thechallenges and working strategies of foundations dedicated to managing artistic legacies, from establishing and documenting the corpus of works, restorationpractices, to building relationships with museums, galleries, and international cultural networks. The program includes presentations by representatives of thefoundations/estates, followed by a panel discussion addressing themes such as: archival mechanisms, financial sustainability, models of institutional collaboration, and contemporary approaches to the conservation and activation of artistic heritage.
This international colloquium is convened by members of the Horia Bernea Foundation, some of whom will be present: Irina Cărăbaș, Ioana Măgureanu, Anca Oroveanu, Magda Radu, Ștefan Sava, Ioana Vlasiu. The foundation’s mission is tosafeguard Horia Bernea’s artistic legacy, focusing on a key component of thisheritage: the artist’s studio in Otopeni, which he built and worked in during the lateryears of his life and career.
