The Foundation
The Horia Bernea Foundation was established with the intent to preserve the artist’s body of work, his personal archives, and his studio, while enhancing the public awareness of his legacy both in Romania and abroad. By developing and supporting initiatives dedicated to his art, the Foundation proposes to enrich Romania’s cultural landscape and to foster public education in culture and the arts. It watches over the authentication of artworks attributed to Horia Bernea and protects the reproduction rights to his works at a national and international level.
A central focal point of the artistic legacy managed by the Foundation is the studio Horia Bernea built and used during the final period of his life, in Otopeni. This ensemble – comprising the studio proper, the residential area, and the inner and outer courtyards – requires restoration and adaptation, so as to provide appropriate conditions for housing a significant amount of the artist’s works, and of his archives. In the long term, we would like the house in Otopeni and its surroundings to become an open space for encounters with diverse communities, dedicated to education and research in the fields of art, art history, visual and cultural studies.
The founding members of the Horia Bernea Foundation are: Margareta Bernea (Președinte), Anca Oroveanu, Andrei Pleșu, Ioana Vlasiu, Magda Radu, Ștefan Sava, Irina Cărăbaș, Ioana Măgureanu, Marian Ivan.
